The first day of the Games in Education was really sweet. One of the coolest sessions was called "Learning with the Lich King: Using World of Warcraft in School" by Lucas Gillispie, an instructional tech coordinator in North Carolina. I love the idea of finding an educational application for an MMORPG.
Lucas has done a great job at creating a mixed-ages guild with at-risk students at his school, their parents, and other educators. He's found that there are all sort of educational benefits to questing with his kids, including teaching cooperation, leadership, and problem-solving.
He's now taking it to another level, starting a wiki to assemble all of the educational resources related to World of Warcraft. There's already curriculum, lessons, research and technical notes that will be useful for any educator thinking about how to use an online game platform with their students.
