Yesterday was a big day for me, as I successfully completed my move from lovely Fort Greene, Brooklyn to Prospect Heights, the next neighborhood over. I'm happy to report that I, my cat Mole, and my stuff all made the transition without undue drama or stress.
The movers were very good at their job, expertly and gingerly schlepping my furniture and worldly belongings in just a couple of hours. Several times they complimented me on my packing job, noting how nicely I had separated my stuff into fragile items, heavy books, kitchen items, and clothing / linens.
Unloading my stuff in the new apartment was a bit more challenging, since the place is quite a bit smaller than the old apartment. I realized quickly for example that my sofa, entertainment center, and coffee table were not going to all fit in the tiny living room.
Despite that small hitch, everything was efficiently offloaded into the new apartment and will probably be stacked up for the next couple of weeks till I can finish unpacking and sorting them.
Mole Negro got over his initial trauma fairly swiftly. I did the whole isolating him in one room for an hour or so. But he seemed pretty chill, so I gave him the run of the place after that, and he seems fairly adjusted to the new place.
I'm looking forward to exploring the neighborhood. My fave places so far:
- Blue Marble Ice Cream (great ice cream, coffee and free wifi!)
- Cheryl's Global Soul (nouvelle / fusion soul food)
- Tom's Restaurant (pancakes)
In the words of Annie "I think I'm gonna like it here."
