My friend and fellow lindy hopper Ryan M. was recently traveling in Asheville, NC when he randomly encountered this guy waiting tables who had these tattoos pictured here. According to Ryan, he had no idea that those phrases had any significance to others. He and his friends just used "shim sham" and "frim fram" to signify nonsense or "blah blah blah," so he had them put on his forearms.
For those not in the know, "Shim Sham Shimmy" is a line dance done by the tap and swing communities around the world. And "Frim Fram Sauce" is a swing song from the 1940s made famous by Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald and Slim and Slam, among many others. And the "Frim Fram Jam" is Yehoodi's weekly swing dance we run every Thursday in New York City.
Let me say that everyone who gets a "Frim Fram" tattoo gets free admission to our dance! (No, henna and magic marker do not count.)
Sweet tattoos! Planning on getting any more?
