Here's some really neat footage of folks dancing and hanging out at one of the coolest swing venues ever, the short-lived Piano Store in the Lowereast Side, back in March 2000.
The Piano Store was an actual old piano store that some folks converted into a clandestine hangout for lindy hoppers, loungers, jazz musicians and other fabulous folks. Casey McGill, J. Walter Hawkes, and other amazing musicians were regulars. It had everything: a tiki bar, a very sweaty dancefloor, and a "nookie room" for you-can-guess-what.
At the 4:20 mark, there's some slightly embarassing footage of me dancing with the lovely Lesley "Glittergirl" Martin. Why I thought the tight disco shirt and baggy pants was a good look is kind of a mystery to me. Still, I look like I'm having a blast.
To celebrate the ten year anniversary of the Piano Store swing venue, some of the original organizers are throwing a New Year's Eve Eve Salon Party on December 30th. It's going to be a fantastic party (that I'm DJing at)! Find out more at http://thesalon.biz.
