This morning I met up with my buddy Rafi for some breakfast from the fantastic Shopsins General Store in the Lower Eastside. Rafi had the mac n' cheese pancakes, which I've written about before, and was very tempted to order again.
Instead I got the "Slutty Cakes," which are pancakes made with pistachios, peanut butter and pumpkin. I have no idea why they are called that, but I did feel a bit dirty after eating them. The peanut butter is the dominant flavor, with the crunch of the pistachios as an afternote and just a hint of pumpkin. Super delicious.
Rafi and I rounded off the meal with a side of super-crispy maple bacon. I guess I was hungry, because this was the aftermath a few minutes later.
My only complaint: their coffee is consistently undrinkable. I wish Kenny would let people bring in their own if he's going to serve such swill.
Next visit: the red velvet pancakes!
Delicious!! I am feeling appetite seeing this slutty cake. I am gonna try this right now.
Some are charming, some are seducing, like the candy, chocolate, the cakes, and some burn everything like fire, as soon as you get near.
