The 27th annual Mermaid Parade is coming to Coney Island, on Saturday June 19! If you don’t know what that is, you simply must find out. It’s the best part of summer in the city.
In short, the Mermaid Parade is a beach-side celebration of all things beachy, fishy and nautical, with lots of random New York weirdness thrown in. There are classic cars, kids dressed like guppies, gaggles of drag queens, and hilarious floats.
Yehoodi has been helping organize a contingent of lindy hoppers to dance in the parade for several years now, under the loving leadership of Miss Behave and Lilieblue. We are also one of the winning-est groups in the parade, not that that is the point. Mostly it’s about just having a great time in the sun and surf, wearing an outlandish home-made costume, and being with your friends.
I realized yesterday that I participated in my first parade in 1997, and I think I have only missed a couple over all those years.
Oh no, not ‘one of,’ THE winningest group in parade history.
Just sayin’. 🙂
ok fine, the WINNINGEST, in HISTORY!
