I'm very excited to announce that my fellow Global Kids staffer Mrs. Tene Howard is one of the nominees for the "Brooklyn Do Gooder" Award. What is the Brooklyn Do Gooder Award? The Brooklyn Do Gooder Awards "celebrate the altruism, philanthropy and commitment of five individuals who are working toward a stronger Brooklyn." Winners of the award will receive $5,000, donated to an appropriate charity (in this case Global Kids).
I work with Tene, and can attest to her tireless, creative and passionate dedication to the youth that we serve. She directs our work at the High School for Global Citizenship, in Prospect Heights Brooklyn, coordinating and supporting our various programs and activities there, including my project "I Dig Brazil" among many others. She is also personally committed to the teens there, often dragging them from the hallways into her office to talk about their goals, academic achievement and personal struggles. I wish I was half the educator that Tene is.
Head here to vote for Tene, between now and October 15!
