My buddy Spuds posts to Yehoodi.com his review of the new XBox 360 game "Dance Central," the flagship dancing game of the new "Kinect" controller system. It's the first dancer's perspective review of "Dance Central" that I've seen on the web so far.
Kinect is what might be a paradigm-changing system for interfacing with your digital devices where your entire body (and voice) is the controller. Several cameras and a mic attach to your XBox 360 so that you can play games, navigate menus, open media, and do other things –all without holding or touching anything.
"Dance Central" (produced by Harmonix) takes the rhythm movement games like DDR and ratchets it up into three dimensional space, where your entire body from your arms to your toes are tracked by the game. Essentially you are performing choreographed steps along with digital characters to various dance tracks from Beastie Boys to Lady Gaga. And it looks like it's a pretty intense workout, even at intermediate levels!
I can't wait to try it out.
