“When Strangers Click” Doc on Love in the Digital Age Premieres Valentines Day on HBO

Posted on January 17, 2011 by

Whenstrangersclick promo I am happy to announce that the documentary "When Strangers Click" is going to be premiering on Valentines Day, February 14, 2011, on HBO. Directed by Robert Kenner, director of "Food Inc," the film explores how people are connecting with each other on the Internet, whether it be on a dating site, a message board or a virtual world.

I've seen a near final cut of these film and I'm proud to have helped this project along as a consultant.  Many of the other documentaries about online relationships have focused on how "weird" and perilous this path is.  In contrast, I think this film portrays a more balanced and nuanced view of the opportunities, risks, disadvantages and advantages of connecting with someone online.

In particular, I'm pleased with the Second Life relationship that is featured among the five stories. The virtual / real relationship is interesting, surprising and touching, whether or not you've ever been in a virtual world or even know what an avatar is.

All of the stories are great, and as a whole piece "When Strangers Click" tells a compelling tale of how technology creates new kinds of connections between people.  Highly recommended.

Fantastic news, yes somehow we connect online. And we connect with who a person is inside, not just the way they look because what we have are those sentient feelings and connections first. They grow over time and we must explore them, providing a freedom of heart many of never knew before.
As the originator of The Dating Casino, http://www.thedatingcasino.com/ which is a lighthearted (“Frothy”) look at what makes for good connections I am in anticipation of this film.
We might even have a Valentines edition of the show to celebrate.

I’m a Twentysomething. Many of my guy friends are about the same age and single. For a few of them, their lack of a significant other is absolutely unbearable — and not just on Valentine’s Day.
