I had a fantastic time today at "Lindy in the Park," a weekly outdoor swing dance that happens every Sunday afternoon in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. A mainstay of the Bay Area lindy scene since 1996, Lindy in the Park is a great public outreach for the dance, since it attracts hundreds of passersby, from tourists to locals, many of whom stay for the free swing dance lesson at noon.
Lots of longtime lindy hoppers also attend this dance of course. A free DJed dance in a beautiful park is hard to beat! I met lots of nice folks from newbies to folks who have been lindy hopping for years, and had a bunch of really fun dances.
Of course, I was invited to dance in their jam, along with other newcomers and those celebrating birthdays. These SF dancers really like giving people jams! Can't wait to come back.
Lindy in the Park is every Sunday (weather permitting) in Golden Gate Park, near the north entrance to the music concourse, from about 11am-2pm.
