I got home late from a night of dancing, with a serious need for an ice cream sandwich. Unfortunately all of the bodegas around my apartment in Oakland were already closed, and 7-11 was too far away.
Then I noticed that the Carls Jr on the corner advertises that it now has "Hand-scooped Oreo Ice Cream Sandwiches." Priced at just $1.49, how bad could it be?
It turns out, it's pretty decent. The giant Oreo cookies have that distinctive chocolate-y flavor, and were less crispy than an actual Oreo, which was good. The vanilla ice cream was non-offensive, with no particular standout flavor. The ice cream to cookie ratio was pretty balanced, with perhaps a bit too much cookie and not enough ice cream.
It was certainly no "Its It," but the Carls Jr Oreo Ice Cream Sandwich will do in a pinch.
