My friend Zak Timan makes the most curious and mesmerizing sculptures using glass, oil, eggs, and microfilament that I enjoy without really being able to understand why.
Tonight Zak showed off a few of his pieces that are being shipped off to a show in Chicago in a couple of weeks. A bunch of Zak's friends and fans showed up at his madcap studio in Richmond, CA for a little art party that was very sweet.
Zak's work is fascinating because it is so simple. He works with another glass artist to make these large enclosures, which he fills with oil and then carefully suspends eggs and glass inside of using microfilament and sometimes small wires and magnets.
It's a perfect showcase for these beautiful eggs that he finds or acquires from donors and farms.
