Alexis and Cyle Teaching a Free Lindy Hop Workshop for Bay Area Teens on October 28

All Bay Area teens are invited to a free lindy hop workshop taught by wonderful Cleveland based dancers Alexis Davila and Cyle Dixon happening on Sunday October 28 at the historic Bayview Opera House in San Francisco. The teen workshop will be followed by a community dance that is open to all. Here’s Cyle and Alexis tearing it up at a recent competition.

Event Details

WHAT: Free Youth Dance Workshop and Community-wide Swing dance

WHEN: Sunday, October 28th, 2018

WHERE: The gorgeous and historic Bayview Opera House

WHO: Youth age 13-22 for workshop; all-ages for community-wide dance GOAL: To educate about Lindy Hop’s history, being a dance created by African American youth in Harlem in the 1920s/30s and to introduce the dance to young people as a means to joy and connection with each other.

FUNDS: Proceeds will go to Old Skool Cafe – a restaurant in the Bayview that trains and employees at-risk youth.

SCHEDULE

  • 11:00am-2:00pm Youth Lindy Hop/Swing dance workshop with nationally acclaimed Lindy Hoppers from Cleveland, OH. Age 19 and 21, Alexis Davila and Cyle Dixon have been dancing since they were in 5th grade – starting through an after-school program. Breakfast and lunch included!  To RSVP for the workshop, complete this form by Friday, October 19th.
  • 2:30pm-3:00pm – Intro Lindy Hop/Swing class for all-ages!
  • 3:00pm-5:30pm – Live swing band and swing dance party for all-ages! Community-wide dance is free for youth age 13-22 and for Bayview residents. $15 for for non-Bayview residents. Tickets for the dance available on Eventbrite .
