“I need to get back to my crew.”
Amos, S5E6, “The Expanse.”
I have been thinking about this line a lot.
Amos, for those that don’t know, is the “tank” of the crew of the Rocinante — the guy you send in to knock heads together (or worse) without hesitation or remorse. So to see him reflect on his actions and realize that he has crossed a moral line that his colleagues would have possibly stopped him from doing is telling. It means that he can act in immoral ways if unchecked. But also that he can realize that those actions are immoral and that he needs his friends to help him keep himself in check.
It reminds me of how we all need other people around us to keep us from our worst impulses. And one of the things that the COVID lockdowns have done is remove us from community. So to see the kinds of social upheavals occurring now is perhaps not surprising, even if it’s tragic.
So , yeah, we all need to get back to our crews.
