Years and years ago, a close friend made me a scarf that I never wore. It was just a too big for me and not really my style.
Then they abruptly ended our friendship in an unexpected and painful way that left me feeling deeply hurt and confused for awhile. But out of some weird obligation to this person, I kept the scarf with me across several moves from NYC to SF.
Eighteen years later, in a purging mode, I was about to finally throw the thing out. But then I looked up how to reuse yarn and found out it’s actually super easy. So I unraveled the whole thing, which was really satisfying. And now I have a ball of beautiful yarn ready for a new project.
There’s something poignant about that. How the product of a messed up relationship can be recast into something new. What else from my past could I transform?
