I’ve been ruminating on this question for awhile now after visiting the amazing San Francisco Columbarium earlier this week with my friend Lainie.
Unlike other columbariums that I have visited, this one has niches with transparent walls that the family of the deceased can use however they wish. Of course the main focus is typically an urn containing the remains of the loved one. But often there are many small items that were associated with that person in some way.
So interesting what people chose to include! Lots of sports memorabilia. I guess dad was a real Oakland A’s fan. Quite a lot of stuffed animals. Work related implements like stethoscopes or pens. Passports, so many passports.

What items would you include in your niche to tell your story? Here’s a couple of mine I grabbed from my shelves: a lindy hop dance shoe, a Disney themed doll wearing roller skates, and a light up croissant.
