Piña colada ices and really really tiny buildings

Cindy and I spent a lovely May day recently hanging out in Queens.

First stop was Columbian food in Corona. Colombian tamales are filled with a little bit of everything — beef, chicken, pork, vegetables, the works. Really a meal wrapped in banana leaves.

Then we headed to the Queens Museum of Art, where we visited their amazing multimedia exhibit on Mexico City. My main interest was the New York Panorama, an incredible 9,335 square foot scale model of the five boroughs of New York laid out below a glass-bottomed causeway.

The panorama is almost an exact replica of every building in New York, with one exception, the World Trade Center, which still stands in the model version. This is slated to be replaced by a tribute in lights sometime this year.

Originally built for the 1964 World Fair, the Panorama still blows me and countless other visitors away.

Later that day, Cindy and I went out for ices at the world famous Lemon Ice King of Corona. Mmmm, piña colada!
