Breaking Showcase from 2010!

Posted on September 7, 2024September 7, 2024 by

I managed to unearth my last and probably best breaking showcase that I performed way back in 2010 at PMT Dance Studios in New York City. As I look back on those days, while my dancing definitely was a bit cringe, it was so much fun! Just getting to workshop ideas and play with moves…

Who’s Yehoodi? Seven Stories about Yehoodi’s Legacy and Impact

Posted on September 26, 2023January 1, 2025 by

As I try to summarize 25 years of Yehoodi, I realize that Yehoodi has been a lot of things to a lot of people over the years. Yehoodi has been…. But that seems a little backwards. Yehoodi has always been its community, the many thousands of lindy hoppers who have connected through this site, in…

Posted on December 27, 2022December 28, 2022 by

The year 2022 was a return to “normal” post-Pandemic life, which was wonderful. There were no major life changes, but there were a lot of wonderful moments to remember.  Health I feel blessed to be in my 50s and able to do all that I do, from skating to dancing to biking everywhere.  The biggest…

Posted on June 20, 2022June 20, 2022 by

Lots of folks have already shared what their experience was like at ILHC 2022. But I haven’t heard much talk about why this event was a game-changer: it centered the Black roots of lindy hop. After two decades of dancing lindy hop, the 2022 International Lindy Hop Championships was the first major lindy hop event…

What the In-person ILHC 2022 Was Like

Posted on June 1, 2022June 19, 2022 by

Last Friday, Manu and I walked into an elegant, empty ballroom in Times Square, NYC. “You know where we are, right?” Manu asks me. “The Edison Ballroom?” I reply. “Naw, dude. This is the Supper Club.” I stop in my tracks as it hits me where I’m standing. We’re in the $%^&ing Supper Club! For…

Frank O’Hara on New York City

Posted on March 14, 2022March 29, 2022 by

“One need never leave the confines of New York to get all the greenery one wishes–I can’t even enjoy a blade of grass unless I know there’s a subway handy, or a record store or some other sign that people do not totally regret life.” Frank O’hara, 1957 Source

Rest in Peace, Anne Bernstein, Lindy Hopper, Television Writer

Posted on February 23, 2022February 23, 2022 by

[Cross posted to Yehoodi.com] Earlier this month, one of the original Yehoodites, Anne Bernstein, (aka “Caledonia” on the message boards) passed away, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Anne was a Brooklyn-based lindy hopper, cartoonist, and television writer.  I only knew Anne Bernstein a little. Anne was part of the mob of lindy hop…

Lindy Hop + Rollerskating in Harlem in the 1930s!

Posted on August 13, 2021August 13, 2021 by

My friend Albert Boulanger brought this awesome factoid to my attention: to compete with the Savoy Ballroom in Harlem in the 1939, the Golden Gate Ballroom also featured roller-skating. Can you imagine getting to lindy hop AND rollerskate in the same lavish ballroom? Sigh. SOURCE: The Birth of Bebop, By Scott DeVeaux · 1997
