I got a nice message from Amil regarding the UN Millennium Campaign’s effort to create games for the $100 laptop (aka OLPC) that would educate children about the Millennium Development Goals. The Campaign has set up a wiki where anyone can submit ideas for computer games suitable for children that could run on the tiny computers. The wiki notes that the proposed game should be "upbeat," "first fun, then educational," and "multicultural."
So if you’ve been sitting on a cool idea for a game that teaches kids
about women’s empowerment, how to fight AIDS, or the importance of
potable water, now’s your chance to make a difference.
I irked some people for poking fun at the effort, but I remain supportive of the idea. How cool would it be to have your game built into a laptop that millions of poor kids are going to use?
