Congrats to Eff and Sara Chu for typing the knot!

Posted on February 17, 2008 by

My best buddy Neal "Effervescent" Blangiardo just got hitched with his fiancé Sarah Chu in a super-secret ceremony that occurred this Saturday in Massachusetts.  Somehow they scored an really awesome write-up of their wedding in the Sunday New York Times!  I’m ecstatic for the two and wish them every happiness and a long life together.

“Planet B-Boy” premiering in New York March 21!

Posted on February 16, 2008 by

I am ridiculously excited about the theatrical release of the breakdance documentary "Planet B-Boy."  This is one of the best dance movies I have ever seen, rivalling "Rize" and "Wild Style." The premiere will be on March 21 at the Landmark Sunshine Theater in New York! Then it goes on limited release in eleven other…

“The Freshest Kids” Quick Movie Review

Posted on February 9, 2008 by

I just watched the documentary "The Freshest Kids: A History of the B-boy" (2002).   It’s an entertaining introduction to how breakdancing got started in the Bronx in the 1970s.  The documentary intersperses awesome dance footage with interviews with legends of the hip-hop world — from Cool Herc to Ken Swift to Mr. Wiggles to Africa…

Yehoodi Talk Show #505: Presenting The Sausage Fest!

Posted on February 4, 2008 by

Episode #505 of the Yehoodi Talk Show has hit the interwebs! Spuds and I talk about a $10,000 lindy hop competition, a cool swing fundraiser for cancer research in Orange County, and, of course, the lovely Christina Oppold.  More exciting, we do a launch of a new podcast for the lindy gentlemen called, ahem, "Sausage Fest."…

Me Breaking to The Go! Team (video)

Posted on February 3, 2008 by

Click To Play I just got the awesome debut album of the group The Go! Team called "Thunder, Lightning, Strike."  Sort of a cross between Schoolhouse Rock and Grandmaster Flash. Here I am doing some breaking to their song "The Power Is On." Yes, I know, my head is chopped off during my toprocking.  My…

There are no fat breakdancers

Posted on February 3, 2008December 13, 2024 by

There are no fat b-boys. Ok, there is this one guy.  But seriously, nearly all breakers have ridiculous bodies. Breakdance is like gymnastics or ballet — it’s just not physically possible to do what we do unless you are in a least good to very good physical shape.  B-boying just puts so many demands on…

My breakdance performance (video)!!!

Posted on January 10, 2008 by

Last night, I finally got the DVD of my breakdance class’s performance at the PMT Studios Fall Showcase last November! (Our teacher Pavan gave me permission to post the video.) If it isn’t totally obvious, I’m the guy wearing the white ski cap and kitty tee-shirt. I have to say it is pretty difficult for…

Akemi and Mickey dancing to Baby Soda Jazz Band at Union Square

Posted on January 9, 2008 by

Here's a sweet video of my friends Akemi and Mickey dancing to the Baby Soda Jazz Band yesterday evening in the Union Square subway station. Akemi is one of my favorite lindy hop follows on the planet and Mickey is a badass balboa, fast lindy dancer. Baby Soda is somewhat of a frankenstein pick-up band…

Happy Birthday, Spuds!

Posted on January 6, 2008 by

Here’s a slightly belated happy birthday to my best buddy Spuds. You’re the best friend, podcast partner, and web adminstrator that anyone could ask for.  And remember, you’re not getting older, your getting bitter-er. This is some footage of Spud’s birthday jam, dancing with the legendary dancer / musician Ms. Dawn Hampton.
