Global Warming adventure game coming to wii and Nintendo DS

Adventure Gamers has a great interview with Carsten Fichtelmann  and Jan Müller-Michaelis of Daedalic Entertainment, a Hamburg-based game developer.  Fichtelmann and Müller-Michaelis talk about Daedalic’s plans to release an adventure game on the issue of Climate Change called A New Beginning for the PC, Nintendo wii and DS . Here’s the synopsis from Adventure Gamers:

The story begins (and in danger of ending) in the year 2500. Humanity
is on the verge of extinction, and the last glimmer of hope lies in
sending a small team back through time in an effort to prevent the
damage before it’s too late. The first attempt to the year 2050 proves
too late to help, as natural disasters are already rampant and
civilization is in ruins by that time. Fortunately, two time.jpglots
manage a second trip, this time to 2008.

Opting for 2-D hand-drawn, animated characters in front of highly detailed hand-drawn backgrounds, A New Beginning looks quite beautiful from the stills that I’ve seen. But will it be fun to play?  Read the full interview for some insight into the development process.

This comes on the heels of Microsoft announcing in June that they are sponsoring a contest to get young people to design a game for the XBox360 on climate change. So it looks like we might have a number of environment-related games on several of the popular gaming platforms coming soon.

The affects of greenhouse gas ozone, which has been increasing near Earth’s surface since 1850, could seriously cut into crop yields and spur global warming this century, scientists reported on Wednesday. For more information http://www.lifeofearth.blogspot.com
